John Horn Senior Associate

John Horn Portrait

I have always believed in the importance of relationships, influence, and collaboration to successfully leading schools. The power of beliefs and vision to give direction and sustainability were concepts I subscribed to, but it was the work of Phil Schlechty that brought those to life in ways that actually influenced my practice. His work gave me new insights, particularly his concepts about engagement, and re-ignited my passion for making public schools great places for children and for those who work in them.

I am inspired by all my co-workers and their commitment to the values by which the Schlechty Center functions. The Center is dynamic and future-oriented, values learning by all, is transparent, authentic, resilient, and innovative, and gives me opportunity to use my abilities in collaboration with colleagues and school clients. Having this privilege at this point in my life sometimes makes me pinch myself to be certain that it is real.
