The Schlechty Center is so much larger than a place. The Schlechty Center is a vision of what public education can be, and it is exciting to be part of something bigger than myself. My commitment comes from my beliefs and my vision of public schools as learning organizations where all children learn at high levels.

I am passionate about the responsibility that I have as an individual to make a difference in public education. I have a passion for improving educational opportunities for all children. I believe that all children can learn more than they are currently learning if they are presented with opportunities to do so. I know that we can reinvent and transform education as we know it today.

R. LARRY HOLT is the former superintendent of Spencer County Schools in Kentucky. During that time, he led the school district to invest in seven additional annual staff development days for every district employee. Staff development was changed to focus on building the capacity to build and sustain engagement-centered schools. He created a District Design Team and led principals to develop School Design Teams to provide continuity of direction. Prior to coming to Kentucky, Mr. Holt established the Fort Craig School of Dynamic Learning, a collaborative effort between the University of Tennessee and the Marysville City School System that became a demonstration site for effective practices and professional development throughout Tennessee and surrounding states. He served as an associate director of schools in Blount County, Tennessee, and led efforts to implement Middle Grade Reform and instructional change through implementation of the state's first year-around school district. Mr. Holt has served as a featured speaker for professional organizations, and has been personally involved with leadership development initiatives including: chairmanship of the Tennessee Valley Professional Development Consortium, TASS annual conference leader, Commissioner's Superintendent Advisory Board (Ky.), and the Schlechty Center Superintendents Leadership Network.
