Central Office Conference (Austin, TX) 01.10.11 - 01.12.11
How Do We Focus on Engagement?
Texts:
· Daniel Pink’s 2009 book, Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us
· Selected sections of Phillip Schlechty’s unpublished manuscript, Working on the Work Revisited, to be published 2011
This conference is designed for teams of central office leaders (which may or may not include the superintendent) who want to continue redefining their collective role from that of bureaucratic supervisors to capacity builders. Those who have attended this conference before may want to return for this new content.
The teams of central office leaders will use Pink’s book and Phillip Schlechty’s latest thinking on engagement as the basis for developing a deepened understanding of what capacity builders do to create desirable conditions for staff and students in a learning organization. Central office teams will have opportunities to share promising work from their districts and to work on some compelling issue from their own district related to building capacity for the organization to create and sustain desired innovations.
Dates and Times: The conference will begin at 8am on January 10th and conclude at noon on January 12th.
Registration Fee: $1,600 per participant. This price includes materials and conference meals.
Standard-Bearer School District: $1,400 per participant. This price includes materials and conference meals. Active Standard-Bearer School Districts have an option to use units to pay registration fees. The registration price is one unit per participant. The Superintendent of the Standard-Bearer district may attend free.

Testimonials
All students deserve to learn, and it is our job as educators to reach and meet the needs of all students – not just the 30 percent there to learn. Finally, I am part of a district that is fostering such a vision and mission! Finally, there is a center for educational reform (The Schlechty Center) out there reaching and teaching districts and schoolhouses across the nation and inspiring such a vision and mission!
The WOW Conference was incredible. I came away with a deeper understanding of the framework and have already implemented the "systems" thinking resources into our Central Office staff meetings.
Thank you for the ideas and the motivation. I always learn so much when I'm with you...even things I didn't expect.
